Babassu Harvesters Reference Centre
About
In the Mata dos Cocais, a transition zone between the Amazon, Cerrado and Caatinga, babassu palms sustain a generations-old extractivist practice led by women. The Reference Center in Sumaúma, Maranhão, was designed alongside them through collective workshops that translated their daily work into space. A sequence of covered and open patios, built with locally made soil-cement bricks, supports production, gathering and community life.
